According to your dad's site, prior to Katrina; your parents, two daughters and two grandchildren lived together in an apartment.
On the site, your dad also says that he was looking to buy a home before Katrina and the prices of rebuilt homes are too high. I don't mean to sound unsympathetic, but prices in my area go up by the day. A house that was 160k four or five years ago is now over 400k. People all over the country are being priced out. I make a good living, but it's too expensive for me to buy where I live, so I am saving to buy a home elsewhere for cash after I retire.
I know someone whose place was flooded and they lost everything. They got FEMA funds for housing and emergency assistance. Rather than spend the money, the whole family (and their dogs too) slept on the floor of his mother-in-laws 1 bedroom apartment while they looked for a house. Then they applied for a for a 30-year Federal Housing Administration loan and used the FEMA cash as the down payment. They moved in and are doing great.
Your mom works and presumably the daughter or daughters with the children works also. Your dad gets disability. All those working or income receiving adults put together should be able to afford a $125,000 house. Apply for a FHA loan together, and see what happens.
If you all can't afford a house where you live, then like a lot of other people in this country, you may all have to move to where you can afford to buy a house. There really isn't an "I want to live here but I can't afford it so please pay for it for me" option in life.

I really feel for you but you know, my entire life I scraped and scraped, and guess what, I am a better person today for having done it. I lived in a tent until I was 5 years old and I was happy, but the government didn't like it in 1979, so I went to live in a foster home...they weren't nice. So, I grew up and lived in Cali where you have to have 3 jobs to pay the rent. I couldn't even do that, so of course there were no holidays for me. I moved to Tennessee, and I couldn't believe it, I could pay rent, eat and buy things for myself, wow, I moved up a bit, then I joined the military and the next 5 years i was away from my family for the holidays, once in Iraq getting shot at, another 2 times in training, and another my husband was in Iraq, and another I just simply don't remember, I think I was home but had very little money. Now, you can endure this holiday season without being with your family and using a hurricane as a reason to get that money. I am not trying to be mean, rude or anything like that, I just want you to know that sometimes there are times in our lives when times are tough, but you know, if we did not have tough times, we would not appreciate the good times we have. If i were you, I would simply call your parents for the holidays and have a good time where you are, it will be different, but sometimes different is good.

Hurricane Katrina was once over a 12 months in the past and you continue to want support??? Get over it Heck they're already rebuilding variety a complete lack of the hearth simply tow weeks in the past. In truth there were many different that experience had a foul set again of a complete loss and they're relocating on. Do you imply to inform me that no longer one man or woman on your complete loved ones might no longer get it in combination?? You all have what you deserve and labored for, get off the tit of the federal government and recover from the beyond, and that is going for lots of the survived storm Katrine that also suppose that they have been private suffering from stuff that occur over a hundred and fifty years in the past. Your existence will probably be your possess if you quit being a sufferer.

When I first moved from Texas to Maryland to save money, i bought a travel trailer. It was a small one bedroom, 24 ft. long. My girfriend and her two kids would come and spend the weekend with me. The four of us stayed in it. Do your parents not have a couch? If your only visiting and not moving in, how much room do you need? What about a hotel?
