My employers take out the amount of money short that day out of our wages, as shift leaders if though there are 2-5 people on the drawer that day. Is this legal?

Nope, unless you were told of the policy when hired or is it in writing. Then the legallity of it is still vague. And if it was either of the above two, I would never let anyone in my drawer or let it out of my sight. Remember, the thief is usually the last person you would suspect.
