I reasently wached the series for the first time in 8 years and still find it confusing.
in ep 26 (rebirth) does shingi die and wy does he kill asuka

You didn't watch the real end of Neon Genesis Evangelion... Rebirth actually leads up to the end of the series, "The End of Evangelion". You need to see that for closure on the series. One thing I will tell you, Asuka doesn't die but the end leaves questions that can be answered differently by different people as it will have a different meaning to each person.

He kills asuka?! Damn, i have to watch the non adult swim tainted version. Even though i cant answer it. I do agree that its both confusing as hell and a real let down.
