That's tough. I don't see myself being completely happy being poor. On the other hand, I also know that I would be miserable if I was rich but lonely. So I guess if I HAD to choose between those two, I'd go with poor and happy.

I would say poor and happy, but only because of the happy part. If it was rich and lonely vs. poor and normal I would say rich and lonely.

being happy is like being rich because the whole point of being rich is to make your life easier so in the end it supposedly to make you happy. that's why i say that being poor and happy is not a bad thing. But then again, how poor makes a lot of difference, there is the very poor people who can't afford to eat or find a place to live, those people are deprived of the basic human rights, and i guess that hapiness can't come alongh with this kind of poverty.

Didn't you already ask this? Someone did the other day...oh well no matter. My answer is the same.

Rich & lonely. Money may not buy "happiness" but it buys freedom & that's close enough for me! I don't think it's possible to be happy in poverty. Life is about survival. You can't survive if your basic needs aren't being met. If your basic needs aren't met you can't even move up to higher needs like happiness, love & belonging or self-actualization because you're still struggling with food, water, shelter, clothing. Besides, I don't get lonely. Half of my pleasures (art, music etc) I do in solitude anyway & to be able to travel anywhere in the world & buy a spectacular house by the ocean. How could I be sad? Come on!

:)

Even as my logic tells me 'poor and happy' is the better of the two options, somehow, I am not comfortable. Perhaps because my instinct wants me to try 'rich and lonely' and see if it is really the worse option - if it is, then it won't take long to shed the rich part and become poor and happy!!

I was married to a rich man and was very lonely even when he was around.

He made sure I got out of the marriage with very little. So, I am poor and happy. I would chose it over rich any day

Poor and happy? very unlikely. Never happens unless you're on state supplied anti-depressants. Rich and lonely? Well, haven't you heard? Money CAN buy friends and so much more...
