OK..I was watching TV and saw this commercial about dustmites and allergens contained in mattresses and now I am really grossed out and refuse to go to bed until I clean the mattress. Any ideas how? I have a steamer (like the one advertised on TV). Is that the best thing to use? If not, what is? Whoever has the best answer and helps me rest easy gets the 10 points!!!

Give the mattress a vacuum and a wipe-over with disinfectant. Don't get too stressed about the TV commercial. They are using scare tactics to push their product. Dustmites have been around since time began. You've been living with them quite unconcerned until you saw the TV thing. There are all kinds of things that would probably freak us out if we saw them under a microscope. No need to get too neurotic about them.

What you're able to do is call a furniture cleansing company and ask them for an appt. to have your mattress wiped sparkling. as quickly as you have gotten it wiped sparkling, then place a plastic mattress cover over the mattress. then you definately could additionally make your mattress as familiar, mattress Pad/Sheet/Blankets etc. the only time cleansing could be a splash intense priced although that is going to likely be worth it to have your mattress sparkling of any component you do no longer decide on in a mattress! additionally once you wash the sheets, wash your blankets covers etc besides. in no way positioned something lower back on the mattress that hasn't been wiped sparkling. this could be completed weekly.

I have a Little Green Machine upholstery cleaner, and it is perfect for the mattress. You can rent a carpet and upholstery cleaning machine from some grocery stores, and Walmart for very reasonable rental fees, and the shampoo is reasonable too.

Vacuum your mattress and then encase it in a hypoallergenic mattress cover. You can get them at Wal-Mart.
