it depends how much blood you have, if there's a lot, then it will appear a brick red color, but if its not so much, then it looks bright red untill it dries, then its brick red once again

actually, the darkness has to do with what is in your blood OR if it has started to coagulate. If the blood is fresh and a very "rich" crimson color, then most likely you have some good blood (full of iron). On the other hand, if your blood is very light, it means you are probably lacking iron among other things. Iron oxiginates and is responsible for the red coloration of your blood. I know this because I have my blood taken every month thanks to a run in with cancer and a few other things.

whether or not the hemoglobin in the eurythrocytes (red blood cells) are combined with oxygen. o2 = bright red. no o2 = dull brick-red.

simple.......oxygen, or lack thereof. bright red is oxygenated blood, darker blood needs oxygen and is headed back to the lungs. hope this helped!!!!!!!!!
