I often find that I am much more literate than I am fluent. When writing, I have time to think about what I'm going to say, and if I say something mean or stupid, there's always the ever-delightful back-space (although, I have to admit I sometimes don't realize I'm mean or stupid until after I've clicked "Send.")
The only thing that helped me was practice. Get into groups, don't worry about not saying anything, and just observe what people say to each other. Steal their lines when you go to the next group.
And it helps to figure out what the people you are going to be with will be talking about -- if they like music, brush up on what's popular. If they are sports fans, check out the sports pages before you head off for an evening.
Dorothy Parker's fiction often deals with the inanity of small talk -- but the thing is, people still often talk like this 70 years later! DP seems to hate small talk, but I think it's a nice skill to have. I'm still practicing (-:.

yea a ,sides the normal type of this .YES i go through it too .it's serious and silly but when there's something important to say no one wants to listen afraid they'll have to deal with every one that has this also.
i was diagnosed schizophrenic early 70s mistakenly i think and wound up with this condition that comes and goes.the worst part is when i feel very normal is when (every thing going good ) i feel off even though i know its right .because it hits at any time disabling my grandeur.
i tried to get continued help but was told i seem to be doing alright and don't need any meds. for it and "off the record that i should just have a beer once in a while" . ???????????
at that time i had been sober 15 yrs. . not any more . but i have fairly strict limits.

A being made up by people so that they have a reason to live. Without an afterlife of some sort, there is no point to life. So God was created to give meaning to life. However, I still believe that there are no divine beings and that my time here on Earth is too precious to waste worshiping something that isn't there.

Yes it is anxiety that can cause you to do this. These Cd's can increase your confidence.. I have been using deep meditation Cd's that helped me to focus, thy cause a bunch of issues to surface though (so be careful and use at your own risk ), i think it is so that you are faced with it and you can overcome the issue, the instructions for the program say to use the Cd's every day but i think that it is only a good idea to do this for the first six weeks of the program and then to use them at your own pace of maybe two or three times a week at least for me anyway, ALSO DON'T TURN THE VOLUME UP VERY LOUD AT ALL WHEN LISTENING TO THE CD'S (when listening to these Cd's you have to use a portable CD player with headphones) the company is called center-point (click on link)http://www.centerpointe.come

well we all want to make good first impressions silly
and you're articulate and have a tendancy to over think, so you over think on the tone of your voice etc and then get all nervous because when you hear yourself talk you sound like a moron. So you just stand there and smile for a moment, and get back to what you were doing
ya it happens sometimes, perhaps you arr just more anxious and need to try doing yoga or something to relax and release anxiety... it really does! Or just go for a 30 min jog everyday, honestly, it will help, oh and drink more water too since sweating eliviates toxins out of thebody, you want to keep yourself well hydrated.

This used to be me also. I think it just got better with practice. I dont think its nerves because sometimes I am most fluent when I feel anxious. I get a sort of verbal dihorreah (sp?) and the words just flow.
I was recently interviewed on the radio & did quite well! Practise talking - it makes sense when you think about it.
