A couple of years ago a friend of mine said that he would love to be on the Survivor Reality Show. Now that we had our own Survivor show, he's saying it's the craziest thing he ever heard of and he'll never make such a fool of himself. He also didn't watch the show. Another fun question, guys. No need to argue. Best answer goes to the funniest story about difficult South Africans.

Well, I was in Houston about 5 years ago to see the Springboks (South Africa's national Rugby Union team) play our "Eagles". Right before the game began, the loudspeaker announced that for halftime, they would feature a local Country-Western singer. Suddenly, one of the South Africans stood up and shouted, "WE WILL STAND FOR NOTHING LESS THAN THE 'DIXIE CHICKS'". Man, those guys are tough!

I think the main reason Survivor SA is such a major flop is because it once again does represent real South Africans. Everyone on the show is either a model or a yuppie. Put a couple of street kids, a couple plaas japies and a couple of larney okes on there and it'll be better. You'll have a little racial tension, a lot of survival (using scissors to cut stuff up is so not Survivor), and lots more action. They chose to use people from a safer demographic group and therefore have created a flop. As for pleasing South Africans - on the whole I think we can do without a lot of stuff, but if we pay for something we want to get every little drop of use out of it, fix it at least three times and then if we don't have a place to keep it to use for spare parts later, we'll throw it out maybe.

Un fortunately a number of South Africans have given many a not so good reputation from my experience in the South East of England. As Anria says they often come across as spoilt brats and find it difficult to settle into another environment. It doesnt help when they talk constantly about being Proud South Africans and a number of English people I have spoken to find them quite arrogant. That is not reflective of the majority of South Africans who are very friendly and easy to get along with but unfortunately it is always the few bad eggs who give the majority the reputation.

Hi Porgie,
Yes I agree - the Survivor show is dull, boring and so stupid! I hope they don't do a second show...about if we are difficult to please...yes I think we are..we somehow always find something to complain about - if not for to much rain, then for too little. I don't have a funny story and this is just what I have observed...have a nice day though!

Hi Porgie, I haven't seen the SA survivor yet, but my Pa tells me over the phone it's silly.
I think us Saffa's can be quite difficult, I see it here in UK a lot, when young Saffa's come fresh into the country here, and how they moan and complain.
I think to many kids are spoiled by their folks, and suddenly when reality strikes they have very unrealistic expectations.
As for you're friend and his small bout of "suur druiwe", I know so many girls like that.
They'll see a nice outfit in a fashion magazine and will all aim to have an outfit like it. Then suddenly, one day, someone who is labeled "common" or "unpopular" is spotted wearing that exact outfit, and in that split second that most wanted outfit becomes stupid and common.
The human mind and personality is really a strange thing.

I think the older generation want different things to make them happy than the young ones.
Don't think we need much to make us happy, though. Just THE RIGHT STUFF.
We can be a bit hardegat - you have to be a bit like that to survive the tough life in Africa.

I just returned from a Family holiday in South Africa. The South Africans are as easy to get along as any one else. However I did find some Women (Blacks) who are very rude. Maybe my experience was wrong (hopefully).
