they're not religious if they do stuff like that. they're only saying that they are to justify themselves that they're religious, so that hopefully that will redeem all the bad stuff they do.

As a minister's daughter, I can tell you that you don't hear about the good and decent ministers. That is not newsworthy. Instead, the press loves to report any minister that falls from grace. That unfortunately gives the impression that a lot of religious people are involved in illicit sexual activities.
But I can also tell you from being a "PK" (preacher's kid), being in ministry is not an easy task for anyone in that family.
The pressures are enormous. They live in a glass house and every mistake they make is repeated. Their family is also under the same pressure. Kids are expected to be perfect and if they are not, it reflects on their dad's job.
How does this relate? When pressures are there, it is easy to lack support and encouragement. As a result, a minister may seek out the wrong type of emotional support. Does this happen to most ministers?
Just enough that the press feeds on it and treats it as the norm rather than the exception.

You are referring to Reverend Haggard of course. I heard him give a particularly virulently homophobic speech several years ago and told my colleague Kathleen that he was gay -- she reminded me of that the morning after his downfall began.
Whether he ever admits it or not, I'm sure he was having sex with men -- he always did. Homosexuality is inborn, and can be suppressed but never changed, it doesn't matter how many children you have or wives you f**k. I have a friend, also evangelical but less crazed, who got married and had his 2 kids. His wife and he haven't had sex for about 15 years now. He has a male friend from the same church -- in the same position. Both are homosexual, neither can deal -- they have sex a few times a week. The wives don't like sex and don't realize what their husbands are doing. I only know because my friend originally tried to seduce me because he figured being an openly gay man I would be less precious of my relationship (which was new at that time) than a "straight" guy would. I wasn't amenable, but subsequently he has kept me informed.
The activities aren't illicit, except for the hypocrisy, and I feel intense pity for all those caught in the lies of the Evangelical movement. It is truly sad that those like Haggard, harmed within himself by hatred and prejudice when he was young, has returned in spades his self-hatred by helping, in all likelihood, hundreds of thousands of young evangelical males to hate themselves. I cannot even imagine how many suicide attempts and successes may have been helped by his hateful rhetoric.
Now it will become the duty of the Evangelical leaders and their media wh*r*s to convince everyone that he wasn't as virulent in his hatred as other evangelical leaders and therefore they should have known (I know that's the tact they will take because its what I would do in their position). The reality is that he certainly was -- and the hatred of the other Evangelical leaders makes me wonder about them too -- to varying degrees. I expect at least one more leader to fall within a decade -- for the same reasons.
Homophobia most of the time, regardless of the dressing, religious or other that you put on it, usually equates out to suppressed, self-hating homosexuality. Pity them, but despise their hypocrisy.
As for Reverend Haggard, I will pray that at last, he at least can escape his self-hatred and live, in real life.
Kindest regards,
Reynolds

Because they secretly have the urge to do such things but have to keep these urges under wraps in order to protect their social standing in the church. The "secret life" is the answer for them. It's not just a moral issue for them; it's about retaining their social (and probably economic) position in the church hierarchy. Also, if they are married, it is necessary that they keep this information from their own spouses as well.

It is human nature to want sex, any church who makes their priests and nuns etc abstain from sex, is being old time. I know it has been done this way for years but human nature is about some sort of sexual gratification think about it, if someone goes through life abstaining and saves their self for marriage how nice it is once they finally have sex. They want more and more, well the same is so for priests who want to find out what others are experiencing and telling their confessions about.

Because there are dozens of religions and many are the ones in it but only one true faith exists and very few are the ones finding it.
Most people turn away those who have the truth and come to them about it because they say they have their own religion.
The gate to the road to destruction is broad and spacious and many are the ones walking it. Narrow is the gate to salvation and cramped is the road and few are the ones finding it.
Satan is god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4) and blinds the minds of the unbelievers.

I seems so outrageous because these people have set themselves up as being more righteous than everyone else.
And I think it is the result of a repressive culture. If they acknowledge that they are gay then they probably would not hurt so many including their families.
The drunk/doped up defense is getting might thin.

It is not the fault of the RELIGION, it is the fault of the PEOPLE potraying it! people can tell you that there is only one GOD, but if the people being a religious man had an affair, what say you?

I think a lot of them are tired of doing the right thing, and their lust get the better of them and they think what they are doing is fun and they don't think they would ever get caught. As for Catholics, since they can't marry then they think sex with boys are okay and its not considered sex, since its one way. And, the church tells them sex with women is a sin and to live celibate lives.

Your fact that God instructions squaddies to take youthful girls as "theirs" contained in the Bible is faulty. there's a tale in Numbers 31:17-18 the position squaddies were ordered to attempt this, in spite of the indisputable fact that the command got here from Moses, not God. in spite of the indisputable fact that, notwithstanding if the command had come from God, it really is puzzling to confirm how a one-time order concerning to a particular conflict that befell over 3000 years in the past might want to ever be interpreted as a justification for baby rape. the nature of this area of Numbers is historic, and there's no indication that the verses were meant to be understood any incorrect way. Christians stumble on a lot understanding contained in the old testomony in books like Numbers, yet our idea practise guide to information nicely perfect habit comes from the teachings of Jesus Christ stumbled on contained in the hot testomony. Jesus eloquently summed up the regulation even as He taught that we'd want to continually love God till now all else, and that we'd want to continually love our acquaintances as ourselves. each and every time we are dealing with a difficulty it really is not expressly suggested in Bible, we attempt to substantiate if our moves will be nicely matched with a experience of love in route of God and others to charm to close if the habit is ideal or not. contained almost about kid pornography, it really is puzzling to confirm how the production or intake of such cloth might want to be something more effective than in basic terms organic selfishness. I see no way that involvement in any component of kid pornography might want to aspect out a experience of love for God or for everyone else, fairly pondering the wear that it provokes. There are various different biblical principals that practise guide us to experience that child pornography and all different kinds of pornography are sinful, in spite of the indisputable fact that the vital of love is adequate for this end to be reached.
