Hey, try this. Grab some paper and a pencil and jot down everything you feel depressed about, jot down all the ways in which your life could be better. Then next to those things, brainstorm on what you can do change those things. You now have a list of goals. You may even want to write, "Seek the help of a professional to overcome my depression." Finally, put a date next to each goal as to when you want to have it completed.

This may sound corny, but going through these motions can be a life changing event. You have more power than you know to change your life.

Here are some additional tips, if you're interested:
-Write up a step-by-step plan for each if it will help.
-Whenever you feel a goal is too daunting, consider it a sign to change your plan for achieving it. Each goal has infinate paths to it's attainment.

I hope this helps. You have more power than you know.

Depression has unfortunately become a very common phenomena, so don't feel you are alone in this as it effects a sizable section of the population.

The causes are varied and can range from chemical imbalances in the brain (such as serotonin and norepinephrine), low self-esteem (created by negative patterns of thought), diet, health problems or a recent event or events, SAD (seasonal adjustment disorder), as well as many other factors.

One of the easiest ways that is usually recommended to people with depression is regular exercise and activities which encourage social interaction.

However the best course of action, if you continue to feel blue, is to consult your doctor who maybe able to advise you in the best course of action, drug treatments (which can be successful) are not the only option as there are alternatives as well - counseling and natural supplements such as St John's Wort and foods that contain Omega-3 fatty acids (fish, flax seeds).

I hope that you find some comfort in the support from both me and the yahoo community. Best Wishes.

I can tell you from personal experience that anti-depressants are miraculous.

In the meantime, try to get regular exercise, go to bed at the same time, don't nap during the day & eat healthy food.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. If you have discomforting thoughts, or you're entertaining hurting yourself, that's a sign you need to get your butt to the doctor and get some professional help. Y! Answers isn't a good tool for treating depression.

All you need to do is go and see a psychiatrst and a doctor. He will just prescribe you maintenance medications which will stabilize your nerves. It may be taken on a regular basis and make you sleep peacefully at night. It may take years to overcome your depression and also acceptance of your depression is very important.
