a standard poodle if i ever get a fenced in yard that is my dream dog....

Chihuahua! I think they are so cute with those big eyes and ears. Poodles are usually so annoying. You can't shut them up.

giant standard poodles are very smart; small poodles not so much; i wouldn't say there was much difference between a chihuahua and a toy poodle.

neither one - if I had a house (instead of a cruddy apartment) I'd have a 80-20 Husky-Wolf mix (80% Husky, 20% Wolf). They are very very beautiful and fiercely loyal dogs if they've been bred and handled right, and once they have accepted your family as their pack, they will protect you to the death. They are great with kids, guarding them like they were the dog's own pups. And as long as you make sure that the dog recognizes you as Alpha dog and not the other way around, you will never have much if any trouble controlling them (unless you mistreat them, and then they might challenge you for alpha position).

I used to have one of each. My Chihuahua, Baby, got stolen, my Poodle, Sissy, died last year, she was about 15.
