Intel is simply the brand, whilst the dual-core is the type of processor, which is made by more than just Intel. For added info, if you can get a laptop which has the AMD Turion dual-core you'll find the performance to far greater.
Oh, and make sure you have a decent video-card as well, a decent amount of RAM - it is not just the processor which needs to be considered for gaming puposes

Intel core 2 duo is Intel's newest flagship processor. This particular processor was manufactured with a new microarchitecture that Intel devised which reduces the processors power consumption while delivering an added boost in speed over regular dual cores. This also translate to a cooler processor. It is also more efficient because it is based on a 65nm processing.
Intel dual core (2 cores) is a regular processor based also on 65nm processing, but without the new microarchitecture. The heat produced is similar if not more than a pentium 4 processor.
The difference comes down to price and usage. If you are a heavy multitasker, then the core 2 duo would suit you. Otherwise if you are a casual multitasker, the regular dual core will suit you fine.

One Thing to know...
On DeskTop, u r dedicated at the first place to use the core duo...It was designed for serving the DeskTop.
The Core 2 Duo, it was improved to server the LapTop....
Technically, The Core 2 Duo is better. It was Modified and Improved for two specific reasons..
The first is for the Processing data and the combination for manipulating it.!
The second is for the compatibility between Allocating an Outery Registers to serve in improving Graphics and Accessing Data through.!
Gaming, u r supposed to look into Video Graphics Cards Rather than the CPU. And then to Allocate the best one considering the CPU used in.!
enjoy it ;)

Well neither one of the two things you have typed actually exist. I believe you are going for Core 2 Duo, and it is the best processor available for gaming, however keep in mind that gaming on laptops requires you to spend the big money on the video card.
