i live in houston texas, in an area where firecrackers are permitted on certain holidays. on independence day and new years eve are the only 2 days of the year where people can fire up their firecrackers and fireworks. when my neighbors or even anybody in the city limit who are playing firecrackers that special night, can i shoot my handgun at cans and bottles for target practice in my backyard? that way i can save myself $7 from going to the shooting range. is there any difference in the sound of the noise that the 2 of them make? is the gun shot louder? i mean, people are going to constantly play their fireworks all night long and it wouldnt make a difference for me to take a couple shots would it? if it is not permitted or is prohibited, would the police still make a big deal out of it? if so, what is the penalty? if prison, then how long? if ticket, then how much?

Gun shots are louder and deeper. Firecrackers have a quick, high, sharp sound. Guns have more of a deep thunder, depending upon caliber. If you're shooting a .22, there's little difference. If you're shooting a 9mm, then the difference if obvious.

Yeah, i will tell. At approximately 12:15am Christmas Day, my fiance' and that i heard 4 gun photos from the line in the back of us. We called the police. all of us asked if it replaced into perhaps basically firecrackers, yet we knew it wasn't. Firecrackers look to have a crackling sound and gun photos have greater of a distinctive, echoing sound. We heard firecrackers final night for sparkling 3 hundred and sixty 5 days's and now we easily realize it replaced into gun photos we heard.

a 22 makes a crack because if the bullet's sonic boom.
a handgun if it is not a magnum is hard to distinguish depending on the echo. I am sure there is a range around there somewhere. Don't shoot upwards at an angle. ever!

depends on the size of each.....to my ears, .22 shorts and ordinary fire crackers sound rather similar.
