It seems that women in healthcare are more interested in tearing others down than building them up. It's easier to point out others problems than to help with solutions or face one's own problems. I am a female nurse, but even when I worked it finance, I found it more difficult to work for another female. To me, men are more straight forward and women are more emotional and devious. I grew up with 4 brothers, who all excel in their fields. I can't help but feel if I were a man, it would be different for me. But even in the nursing fields, women can be harsh to male nurses.

I have been nursing for 6 years and have grown dissatisfied with the working (social) enviorment for nurses. Most women have a hard time working with me! I am young, attractive, and smart so a lot of other female nurses feel threatened by me. They get upset because I have social interactions with the physicians and other support staff. They get upset because I have healthy working relationships with the male staff. I am not a flirt. I am friendly and outgoing and love talking to people. The female nurses are constantly prying and trying to figure out my personal life. They constantly gossip and try to engage me in it. I have learned to accept the way it is and stay separated from it as much as possible. I am nice to everyone but there is a limit to how much info I share about myself and others with anyone. It really bothered me when i first started nursing ( I was 19 y/o!!!) so you can only imagine. Now I don't care. I go to work take care of my patients and that is my main focus! My supervisor once told me if the docs know you by your first name that's inappropriate. I looked at her like she had lost her freaking mind and told her yea right!! I can converse with anyone about anything I want to and you'll have to get over it. If you are looking for support or encouragement from your female co workers you are not going to get it! Especially in nursing.

i think women together just get jealous of each other and try to one-up everyone else - i have no idea why that is, but it does happen a lot! like my mom says, "girls can be cruel!"
