websites use cookies to keep track of you. For example without cookies yahoo wouldn't know you logged in. When you delete cookies that tells your browser to forget everything and you will have to relog into all your sites. Sometimes cookies are also used to keep track of your activities online, which may be considered an invasion of privacy, but no personal information is disclosed.

A cookie is a method by which websites can store some information about your profile.
For example, there are times when a website will ask you if you want them to keep your user name or things like that so that the next time you go to that site, it automatically recognizes your user name. This is done thru a cookie which is stored on your PC. It also helps with shopping carts so that for sites like Amazon, it tracks what are the items you've looked at before and such.
Typically they are harmless. When you delete them, all sites which may have track information such as user names to certain sites or even account number that are defaulted in certain sites for you will be gone.
I don't think there is a way to get them back but if you go back to these sites and refill out some info, it will get autogenerated again.

Every site your visit and everything you do on your computer, adds it's cookie to your hard drive, enabling their site to load faster the next time you visit. Occasionally, you'll need to remove all of the cookies because they do get stale after a period of time and will no longer load that site. Afterwards, the next time you visit that site, a fresh cookie will once again be added to your system. Good question by the way. Larry RadioShack 01-9590

IF once u delete the coockies it cant be recovered and when u again visist the particular site it creates new coockies.
Coockies are the information that a particular site leave on your computer. This only help in making the aceess of the site fast.
There is no harm done if the coockies are deleted

When you delete cookies from your computer it puts them into your recycle bin and they are stored in there until you empty that. The only way you could really get them back is by trying to recover them from you recycle bin. Good Luck!

You can't get back those cookies deleted - however when you re-log on to site which uses them (such as to remember if you should still be logged onto a site), a new cookie will be created

when you delete cookies they should go into the recycle bin. You can drag them back or restore them, but in my experience, once they're gone, even if you put them back your browser no longer sees them no matter what you do.
And you can always go visit a particular site to get that cookie back if you're desperate.

Info linking you to other websites will be deleted. You have to go to desired websites and re-enter info to get a cookie back.
