The question is: Par for one round of golf is 72 strokes. Suppose a player parred every hole except one. On the last hole, she made a birdie, or 1 stroke under par.What was her total score for the round?

Par on every hole would give you 72 strokes but seeing as you got one under par on one hole that means you take one stroke off leaving you with 72-1=71
Her total score for the round is 71 strokes

72 divided by 18 is 4. So to par the course you have to score 4 on each hole. If you par 17 holes, then birdie the 18th, you score (17 multiplied by 4) plus 3 which equals 71.

Of course, you could just say 72 minus 1 equals 71 !

Par means you made the normal number of strokes. If you did 1 stroke less on the last hole, you did the course in 71 strokes instead of the par of 72.
