I need a piano, and a friend of mine has one but it hasn't been tuned in 15 years and it's been moved. I want to know if it'd be worth it to fix or just buy a new one...

I think it's worth it. It's a lot cheaper to tune an old piano than buy a new one. When I started piano lessons as a kid, my parents bought an old church piano that was filthy as can be. We had it tuned and it played like new. I love the way old pianos feel and play. As long as nothing is broken it won't cost too much to have it tuned. Have fun!!!

You can tune a piano after 15 years. The tuner may recommend getting it tuned several times after such a long period. But definitely worth it. If there is other damage that would be another thing, I don't know. If it's just the tuning, definitely go for it.

Get a piano tuner to look at it and see how much work it'll need. Likely it will need a bit more than just tuning. However, if it was a good piano to begin with, 15 years isn't that long; it can likely be returned to good condition.

They don't generally make cheap quality pianos.

Get it tuned, they likely will have to tune it more than once if it hadn't been tuned in that much time, but a piano is a wonderful instrument.

Good luck

It could do. It may depend on where it was kept, the humidity and even how often it was played. Why not get a piano tuner to check it over prior to purchase (ours did this for around £30). Expect to pay around £50-£60 for piano tuning.

if the integrity of the sound board hasn't been compromised, you'll be okay. once you get it tuned you'd probably have to re-tune in a month or so, just because the stress on the strings will be so different than what it had been after 15 years without a tune-up.
