I am completely new to Final Fantasy and I have only heard about it from commercials and Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 so I was wondering where to start in the game. I want to buy the game but I don't know which game to buy. I want to go in order but I heard the game starts at 7, which seems very wrong because what happened to the six before it. So I was wondering where do you recommend I start if I am new to Final Fantasy and why does the game start at 7, if it does? Oh, do the games beginning come in ps2. Thank you!

I recommend IV or IX - i'll put details on each of the games, below.

it does not start with VII (7), but many people consider that to be the pinnacle of the greatness of final fantasy. Myself, like many other people that know what an RPG actually is, know that 7 was only "OK" and nowhere near as good as IV or VI. VII was the first FF on playstation though. at the time, the previous games were on other systems.

you can play all of them except III (3) on playstation 2

it is important to note that none of the FF games are connected. the only things that are similar are the monsters and the magics. the point of each game is to have a different system than the games before it. but when they came to VII (7) they were putting the money into design and looks, and were too cheap to put a new system in place.

final fantasy origins, a ps1 game, includes I and II - but i do not recommend either of those to a beginner. the first game, though i loved it 16 years ago, doesn't really have a storyline, but brian clevinger has been writing one for them at http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=010329. II(2) has a difficult learning curve, from what people have told me.

final fantasy chronicles, a ps1 game, has IV (4) and another game called chrono trigger. IV is the only final fantasy game that has a story that shapes the game, instead of a play-through that shapes the game. IV is easily the best final fantasy game, and i recommend this as a starter game. it has its challenges, but it isn't too hard. chrono trigger will also be another quite fun game.

final fantasy anthology, a ps1 game, includes V (5) and VI (6). V had a good story to it, and there were class changes that shaped who your characters turned out to be. VI had a great storyline, but too many characters (16 or 18 or something). it also had a unique way of learning magic.

final fantasy VII, a ps1 game, was the first game to use polygons for characters to assume a 3D look. they rehashed the magic system from VI, because no time was taken to put a new one together. they didn't take time to put together an original storyline, so they ripped the story from several contemporary novels. they didn't take time to develop the story behind most of the characters, and attempted to correct this a decade later with the second final fantasy movie ever made.

final fantasy tactics, a ps1 game, was quite fun, but wasn't an rpg. it was a tactical strategy game. similar games include la pucelle, disgaea, rhapsody, etc..

final fantasy VIII (8), a ps1 game, got back to the system of throwing away the old magic and battle systems, and recreating new ones. this time they focused on story as well as looks. the game looks great, but because of the magic system making you use magic to up your stats, no one has ever cast many of the magics. i know many people that have played this game, but haven't heard of anyone that has ever used the ultima spell.

final fantasy IX (9), a ps1 game, is another great game to start with. this time, to learn magic and skills, you need to keep a piece of equipment (a helmet or a staff or whatever) on for a certain number of points obtained in battle. it has a pretty good story, and looks beautiful.

final fantasy X and X-2, while different from each other, are the only stand-alone ps2 games. X has an ok story, and mediocre gameplay - but the lack of a world map hurts it in the eyes of many. also, since each character can learn every skill in the game, you basically have 7 copies of the same character, if you complete the ability grid. X-2 took another try at the class changing system of V, but i never gave it a go. some people say it was really fun, some people say it was horrible. either way, it's not a starter game.

final fantasy XI was an online game - an MMORPG. other mmorpgs include World of Warcraft, and lesser online games like adventure quest, runescape, etc.. not recommended for purchase.

Kingdom Hearts is a great game. They do build upon themselves somewhat but not so much that you couldn't jump into Kingdom Hearts 2 and not get whats going on.

The folks at Final Fantasy already took care of your problem. The Final Fantasy franchise does not build upon themselves game to game like sequels. Some have reoccurring characters like 9 and 10, but for the most part they do not. And they encapsulated each game within itself in such a way that you can easily get involved without haveing to know the back stories.

If I were you I would just go ahead and get the Final Fantasy 12 it is completely awesome. It has a different type of game play then previous Final Fantasies and has an excellent story line as well as graphics. In the world of MMORPGs it is rare that you find games with good story lines.

PS2 games start at that because previously they were on a different console.

the games dont have to be played in any order. the storyline is NOT connected. meaning that events in Final Fantasy 11 have nothing to do with Final Fantasy 12.

if you saw them in kh or kh2. you saw characters from 7, 8 and X. however Final Fantasy 7 and 8 are hard to come by. 9 even more so. X is a good place to start. great storyline, easy to find in stores and cheap too. however, if you dont wana get X, 12 is completely amazing. however the game is a little more difficult than past Final Fantasy games because leveling up is not as easy.

Final Fantasy games are not all one storyline. Each one has their own characters and story. Sometimes the names and items and even places have the same name but that is all. FF 7 is an excellent game but hard to find. If you just want to see if you like it try out FFX if is only 20 dollars and a good game. FF7 and Up are on playstation systems.

The thing with FF is that the story line doesn't really carry on from game to game. I recommend that you buy FF7. It was a great storyline. That is the game made me a fan. Final fantasy 7 is for the playstaion 1, but you can still play it on the ps2 as long as you have a ps1 memory card to save into.

You will have to truthfully begin with Final Fantasy one million. Obviously, it would not make so much feel to shop for a Nintendo and get the NES replica of FF1, so the PSP one will paintings effectively. But, in the event you would not have a PSP, then I'd advocate beginning with Final Fantasy nine for the PS1. I suppose you'll purchase it at the Playstation Network and down load it for your PS3. It particularly does not topic which sport you begin with (none of them are concerning one an extra, besides for the visible ones of Final Fantasy X-two and Final Fantasy VII's 2 thousand spin-off video games). But, for the affection of all that's holy in the world, do NOT begin with Final Fantasy 7. This global would do with a couple of much less folks who name FF7 their favourite seeing that they do not know learn how to take their rose-coloured glasses off.

Final Fantasy I had a good story, so if you don't mind bad graphics (it was a NES game). I also liked Final Fantasy Tactics (in my opinion one of the best games in the whole "series" (only one of the games has a true sequel, which was FFX)) FFVII was very good, I also liked FFIX, FFX, and FFX-2 (not twelve, 10-2), and if you have the money FFXI was fun (its an MMORPG)
