Asking everyone here will get you different answers. If you want a paid one, choose one of these:

1) Trend Micro (prefered)
2) Kaspersky 6.0
3) Panda

For a free one, you need to get a combination:

1) AVG Antivirus, ZoneAlarm Free Firewall, Ad-Aware,Spybot
2) Avast!, Zonealarm, Adaware, Spybot

Basically, you need an antivirus, firewall and 2 antispyware. Note, if you get a paid one, you still need Ad-Aware and spybot.

By the way, dont buy CA because you can get a 1 year free trial off of the Microsoft Website. Go to microsoft.com and in their serach type Ca etrust and click on the first one.

Good luck!!

They are both fairly equal, but having 15+ years experience in the IT industry, I can tell you that they are both only mediocre in today's world. Both of them are needlessly resource-hungry, and can be a nightmare if a portion of the program becomes corrupt.

I heartily recommend trying Panda antivirus, there is a free 30-day trial available at their site : http://www.pandasoftware.com

There are several versions available, and they are similarly priced to the Norton/McAfee products. Although relatively unknown on the consumer market, Panda has a large presence protecting corporate PCs and Notebooks.

Good luck, I hope this is useful to you.

Give up using Windows, and install Linux on your computer. Linux is immune to all viruses, malware, spyware and adware.

Go to www.distrowatch.com to find out how to get all the popular flavors of Linux...

...then do an image search for Linux screen grabs on Google.
