Saying that you can do something is one thing. Having a track record that proves your skills is another. The key is to have enough skills to do the job, while not have so much experience that a company feels like they can't afford you.

Information Technology is one field where you need specialized people because the projects they are developing is also specialized.
[For Eg: All ATM's across India are connected and a database is maintained. That is how you are able to access your ATM card anywhere without any trouble. These are applications in which you cannot allow any errors.]
So, people with experience will only be able to do it in sort span of time and also accurately (very important).

experience makes man perfect.
even a person with 1st rank in m-tech may not be able to do programs done by diploma holders with just 2 years expereince.
so experience is the key.
