We use both. depends on the look you are going for.
Liquid liner is great for a fine line, or a very glam look. Also a retro look. It is a "polished" look.
Pencils are different too. A Kole or Jajal pencil is great for a smokey eye or for wearing on the inside lower lid. It is a natural pencil, so washes out of the eye easily. Waterproof pencils are good for useing around the eye on the outside. They come in several colours and are good for "everyday" looks because they do not have to be re applied often..like for work etc. Hope this helps!

Liquid eyeliner gives a more bold line while pencil eyeliner is a softer look. It all depends on the photoshoots. Click the link to learn more about makeup.

I think liquid eyeliner is better. It gives u a bold look for eyes.Apply on the upper eyelids and u can try the pencil one below. For me pencil eyeliner doesnt suit that well.It smudges off and finally fades away leaving my eyes look bad.The next day it looks that I have dark circles under my eyes. But if you want that smoky effect then u can go for the smudge proof pencil eyeliner.U can also use a black or dark eyeshadow to replace the pencil liner effect.Creat the effect your own way.

The eyeliner that works the best, and is the easiest to use without making a mess, and is also easy to remove is the pencil that the liner comes up when you rotate it, it is not as harsh as pencil and not as messy as the liquid liner.
Go to a cosmetic counter, ask one of the consultants they will know exactly what I'm talking about.
good luck

I personally prefer powder liner (or shadow) and apply it with a slanted liner brush. I just find it easier to control.
Makeup artists use a range of products, it depends on what the required look is. Sometimes it's just personal preference - some use pencil, some use liquid, some use powder.
Try a few out and see which one you like the best.

well if u have never worn liquid eyeliner before then id recomend that you use pencil eyeliner because the first time you put liquid eyeliner on can can irtate your eyes and you dont want red eyes before you have a big party to go to now do you. Besy of luck with that. mwa-z

I've actually tried both. The one that I loved the best is a pencil from Mary Kay. It stayed right where I put it. It does cost about $10.00 a pencil but it is worth it. And depending on how much you wear it'll last for a while.

this would probably depend on the preference of the celebrity, whether their facial features may adapt to a starstruct, cat-eyed bright liquid liner or a casual, street definition for pencil. For beginners, most people recommend pencil to configure their preferred basic eye outline as liquid liners may have the effect of smudginess.

Liquid can be tricky to apply if you don't have a steady hand;be careful using it so it doesn't get into the eye itself, you are more prone to infection that way. I personally prefer pencils.
I don't know if it still in print, but if you can locate a copy of Helen Hall McLean's professional makeup book- go for it! She offers in detail all the illustrations that the pros don't want you to know. It's a goldmine. Good luck in your decision.

depends what you are going for...i think that if u want a bold look and you want it to stay use liquid but pencil eyeliner kinda fades after while. i think that liquid is harder to use rather than pencil. practicing is the best way for liquid.
