I'm 41 weeks, 3 cm, and contracting. Labor and Delivery sent me home last Wednsday while I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes. I was so miserable. I eventually fell asleep, because I was exhausted, but I just think that it was wrong for them to send me home in that condition. I am absolutely miserable, and can barely get up from my bed without literally groaning so loud that my neighbors can hear. When I walk I look like I will collapse in any of my next steps. Is it possible to go into labor and just not dilate? I lost my mucus plug about a week ago, but still no water-breaking action. I really want to avoid a C-section, but I'm afraid that because of my small frame, and such a large baby, I won't be able to avoid it. Is there anything I can do? Can someone please give me some advise? I'm a first timer, and really don't even know what I should do. Also, being in the military doesn't help much, because the facilities have a pretty heartless staff.

I am prior military and now am a military wife so I know what you are going through.....As for your pregnancy issue I have also gone through something VERY similar, here's what happened:
I was 36 weeks and I lost my plug. Every 2-3 days I had contractions that were a steady 3-5 minutes for 15 to18 hours. I went to the hospital and I didn't dialate ....so they sent me home. Finally after 2 WEEKS of this I begged my OB/GYN to do something. She scheduled me for an induction the next day. Well I get there they hook me up to the meds for inducing and guess what NOTHING!! I was on a full dose of meds for 6 hours and finally dialated to a 3. I was horrified! My doc said let's break your water to see if it helps speed things up. Then about 5 hours later two nurses come in and ask me if it is okay for one to be "trained" on how to check for dialation on ME. By that point I was exhausted and pretty much didn't care, I said sure. When the first nurse checked me she said I was to a 5 (yippie). So then the second nurse checked me and she asked the first nurse if she was suppose to feel "something." The first nurse told me she was going to check me again. After she did, she told the other nurse, "yes I felt what you felt and we are going to have her doctor check her." I asked what was wrong she said let's just see what your doc says. I panicked. My doctor came in and checked me and said "oh my there is another bag" I said "WHAT?!?! Does that mean there are 2 babies?" She said "no that sometimes these things happen." She broke that bag and within an hour my son was born. To make this long story short: when I went for my 8 week post check up I asked my doc what had happened. She told me that the pathology report showed that I must have miscarried a twin very early in the pregnancy and since I was still pregnant with the other twin, the bag continued to develop and prolonged my labor.

SOOO the point I am trying to make is that nothing will happen if you don't beg, plead, scream, and cry to your doctor in order to find out. Good luck!!

15 minutes apart is too soon to go to the hospital. Your doctor should have already told you when to go to the hospital, depending on how far away you live and any unusual pregnancy risks. The norm here is contractions 5 minutes apart for at least an hour and lasting 45-60 seconds, getting stronger, longer, and closer together. Check your bag to make sure you have everything you need in it. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated. AND DON'T CALL 911. There isn't an emergency. Birth blessings to you.

You know one thing that really helps that water break is sex. Mens sperm has something in it that thins our the cervix therefore bringing on stronger contractions. Also if you are that uncomfortable then call your doctor. There has got to be something they can do for you. But it is impossible to deliver a baby without have the dilation. You will have to wait until 10 centimeters so the baby can come out. Also if your contractions were 2-3 minutes apart the hospital should not have sent you home. But call your doctor and let him or her know. They will definitely be able to help OK. Good luck and congratulations.

Wow I understand how you feel about the military staff I just recently got out on a chapter 8. going in to labor and not dilating is possible i was in labor for 9 hours and was only at 1cm it wasn't untill they put me on the pit drip that i started dilating 7 hours later I delivered my 9 lb baby boy. I know that walking is getting hard on you right now but that is the best thing for you to do you could even try castor oil mix like 2 TBLS with a glass of orange juice and drink it before you walk

Bless your heart. My first was a military baby too. (Tucson). I was also over due and MISRABLE!! If you were having contractions every 2-3 last weds. and they stoped then they were right to send you home. I 'm sure if you don't go soon they will induce. In the mean time try some natural ways to get going on your own... Walk, Have sex, express milk from your breast etc...
It will happen! I'll be thinking of you and wishing you well. Hang in there. P.S The 1st. is now 20 and I have had 3 more so it's not so bad.. RELAX that will help too!!

Wholy crap - why would a military hospital be like that!?

Since you are past the 40week mark - I would say it is safe to have sex because that can help stimulate labor on even more. Also try nipple stimulation. If not - try to get a pass or something to a different hospital.

Dang girl I feel for you! You're going through a slow labor! *HUGS* I hope you have your baby soon!!

try talking to your doctor about it they are paid to deal with this stuff properly and insist on the treatment you want like a water birth they are suspose to be the best for all. people have been haveing babys for a long time before c section have come along. do your research and do what is best for you and stick to your guns. c sections ahve come too easy for doc't to use and make it easier on them not haveing to wait for you to decide when your body gives birth. that is why they like them so much and then they are home on time for dinner. if your doc insists on a c section then you insist he do it at 2 am see how he likes that!!

I am horrified that they did that to you. I would absolutely camp out on my O.B.'s doorstep and demand to be induced!! You are overdue and if you are so exhausted then you are not going to have an easy labor! Bring your gun if you have to.
