I'm glad I read the book before I saw the movie, otherwise I would've probably never read the book. The movie is a waste of time compared to the book. Also, the Da Vinci Code isn't Dan Brown's best work. Angels and Demons is.

Tough question - the answer is - it depends! If you want a movie that follows very bit of the book exactly, you might be disappointed, but if you are looking for a visual reference to the book that keeps all the main story points in tact, you might be in for a happy surprise! I, too, have been disappointed by many movie versions of books I read, and I can honestly say this one did not disappoint. It was true to the story of the book. By the way, if you have not discovered the Illustrated version of the book, it is WELL worth the expense. When I purchased it, I ended up reading the entire book again. It is beautifully done.

There are very few movies that can ever capture the subtle nuances of the written word. And it would be incredibly hard for a director to make a movie that would live up to the way we had imagined a story in our minds after reading a book. Having said all that, the movie "Da Vinci Code" is an excellent movie, but it's not as good as the book was, and I don't think very many people expected that it would be.
