it happens when you have not slept well or you are nervous and/or anxious about something. it is your body's way of coping with the issue at hand.

because the glucos in your eye lid membrain does not know the correct time to function properly

because it's a muscle, and every muscle in your body twitches every now and then.

a hiccup is a twitch in your diaphragm, which i think is kind of cool to think about.
