The Republican National Commitee pays for campaign travel for President Bush. Just as the DNC pays to truck Mr. Clinton around.

There are limits to the spending on election campaigns but most reports of overspending happen way after the event. Some 'free' TV airtime is given at taxpayers' expense, but most of the funding comes from private or corporate sources.
Catch 22: Public funding with scrutiny, control and a big bill; or private funding with 'payback' on the investment for helping a friend in need......

No. Taxpayers do not pay for campaigns. On our Federal Income Tax form, there is a place to check (or not) allowing $3 to go to campaign funds. This money is evenly divided among the parties and you have the option of choosing to donate or not. It is against the law for political candidates to use tax money or employees to assist in their campaigns. Right now in Florida we have two local and state officials who are being sentenced for doing just that.

We pay for Air Force One to fly around and campaign, plus extra security detail for appearances, the nice suits, etc. so we pay in a indirect way.

this is a sad truth that an acting president takes part in elections. that is NOT fair as it gives extra dis-advantage to the other party opposing the president in power. and it is even more sad that taxpayers have to take the burden of allowing a MURDEROUS president like Bush to continue rallying over the taxpayer's money and build more mountains of MUSLIM SKULLS all around the world.

Your tax dollars pay for most of the campaigning that incumbents do for themselves or others.
When Bush leaves office you will not only continue to pay for security for him and his family forever, along with medical care and retirement, you will fund a library and a staff to bolster his ego.
