Thanks for your answers. dualspace was spot on. Thanks. yupchagee gave an answer very close, but the rounding and sequence of calculations probably made the difference. This is the VB6 code I am now using.

sngRate = sngRate * (intTerm / 365)
curPrincipal = curInterest / (sngRate / 100)

what is the question, and is the interest type i dont remember compound but simple is product X rate X time (PRT)
for instance if an ivestment of $1000 dollars was made for 6%pa
over 3 years it would be 1000X 0.06 X 3 ( so after 3 years it woulb be $180 dollars earned on interest giving you $1180 on a thousand dollar investment)

I didn't round. Sequence of calculations makes no difference.
