It must cost millions to fly a jet around and pay for security, rent the whole floor in the best hotels, etc. to raise money for the republicans. Why do we have to pay the bill? Isn't that misuse of funds or something?

The President has use of Air Force One for speaking engagements So what he does is schedule speaking engagement, say at a college the same day, they schedule a fund raising dinner, across town so he has free transportation. He has to pay for use of air force one on fund raising trips. It gives the encumbent party an edge in raising funds. There is a news story every two to four years concerning presidential travel.

Why are any politicians allowed to spend MILLIONS on their damned commercials, most of which are outright lies??? The money spent on this crap would be put to much better use feeding and housing the poor, making sure that everyone has excellent health care, paving our roads, fixing our infrastructure, helping the starving children in Africa, buying mosquito netting to reduce malaria in tropical countries................and on and on.
I think each candidate should have a set amount of time each week before an election, for about two months, to state their platform--and NOT to mention their opponent, or anyone's record of voting, etc. Let the media do the digging into the past and print it in the paper on the editorial pages.
This election is the worst I've ever seen, and I'm 60 yrs. old this year!

All the President has to do is to put a single official duty and he is free to use the plane for his personal and fund raising duties. If you want to change it, petition your Congressmen to change the law (fat chance - 100% of them are corrupt)

You know, Bush isn't the first president to do this. My guess would be that they all did it. Some on horseback or in a carriage. But, go ahead and accuse Bush of squandering taxpayer monies. You do know that all the politicians do it.

He has the right to campaign. As do any other Americans. The security is just part of the job description. Hell, we still pay for Secret service for all of our old presidents. And their families.
Just part of being the pres.
