No. The terrorist want attention which I will admit they do get when reported. Attention is not the only reason they do it.
Even if American or British press stopped reporting on terrorist activity, it would still be reported by other countries press. And since many people in the US have cable or satellite TV which airs other countries television channels on it we would still find out.
Besides with the freedom of press we have in the US, I doubt the press would not report on it. The press would scream about lack of that freedom if they are not allowed by law or governmental pressure not to report on it. They would be right. One of our most fundamental is freedom of press. How else would some of the scandals come to light if not via the press?
With the Internet and press media (US and world press) having web sites, people would still have access to it.
Besides we as the general public should not stick our collective head in the sand. We need to be aware of what is going on in our country and the world.

I feel that the answer to this question truly depends upon the goal of the particular terrorist group or regime. Those who do not care about the media will continue; those who believe that their progress is primarily dependent upon media coverage would stop.

Not to report something is censorship! the trick is to report any incident in such away has not to sensationalize the event!. Most journalists are out to make a name for themselves and are more likely to slant a story one way or another whether truthful or not!..
