I am interested in making just a simple flannel ragtime quilt. What would be the proper seem allowance to use so that if frays nicely? Also, if there are any websites that offer simple patterns and color ideas please attach them.

There's a great rag quilt at the link below. It has instructions in PDF format that you can download. It's a nice version straight from the fabric manufacturer's website - no ads or other junk.

According to their instructions, your seam allowance should be 1/2". When you're finished with the quilt, you clip the seam allowances 1/4" deep every 1/4", then wash to fray.

You might try looking on Google, and typing in "Ragtime Quilt". I would say that a 1/2 inch seam allowance should be plenty. You don't want your quilt to be too 'hairy'.
