There's been 5 of them that I can remember. Which one are you talking about?

Are you referring to the Musical. I spent a lot of time in band when I was in high school and college. Musicals will always have a special place in my heart. As far as the Phantom of the Opera, the first time I watched it was OK. The second time I could focus on the production value and music. With operas, part of the genre is that you already know the cast of characters, plot, and ending before you see it. This allows you to compensate for weak plot and character development with grandiose music, costumes and other eye candy so to speak. My favorite scene was the duet and the ride from the opera house to the lair. The music was pretty good and quite romantic, considering she was being kidnapped for the purpose of sex and seduction by a disfigured mad man.

I was disappointed. I thought they did a decent job, and the music was ok, but the Phantom was TERRIBLE!!! He is an actor, not a singer. It was painfully obvious when he comes off his high note in the cave (during Music of the Night) and the note reverberates completely flat off the ceiling. I would have probably liked it otherwise, but I LOVE the music and he ruined it.

You mean the 2004 movie? I thought it was good as well as the music.
Better yet was to see it on stage, unfortunately it was my first exposure to this wonderful story and I'd love to see it again now that I've practically memorized the entire plot and all the songs.

If you mean the most recent one, then YES!! But it's no substitute for seeing it on stage. I've seen it live twice and it's amazing. I love the music most. I would recommend Evita or Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat too, if you haven't seen them. They're also by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
