Actually an article I read last week on Yahoo! says there's no possible way they could be. It's a mathematical fact. I've attached a link so read it, it's interesting.

However, there is a condition that causes people to have symptoms that appear vampirish, and Dracula was based on a real prince in Transylvania nicknamed "Vlad the Impaler".

Read the book about the HighGate vampire by Sean Manchester.
He's a catholic priest who claims to have hunted down a vampire and kill it. He took pictures of it and they are in his book. Go to the website below to read an interview with Sean Manchester.

Apparantly there is a real disorder where people are allergic to garlic, sunlight and silver. They also require blood transfusions.

The concept of vampires on the T.V are using this rare disorder and hyping it up as you can see it makes good television.

Depends on how you define vampirism.

If you are referring to the mix of a variety of different mythologies and legends thrown together by Hollywood, then of course not. That's like asking if if a water-repellent screen door on a submarine is effective in combating the rise of west nile virus in the southeastern United States, but only if you call it "Bob the Unholy".

If you are asking if there are those who drink blood because they feel they need it, the answer is yes.

There is a medical condition called Porphyria that exhibits all of the same symptoms as Vampirism. It is this condition that started the myth.
