Hi. I have always gotten the maximum "servicing" on my 2003 toyota spyder MR2 car.

But, over the past few months the Service Manager at my auto place told me that I didn't need all that servicing, and that I just need an oil/filter change every few thousand miles or so. (He's a friend of mine, and so he helped me out).

He let me know that it's a rip off to get all that servicing cuz I don't really need it right now. And he told me that when the car needs other service stuff, he'll let me know. But then, he up and quit his job and moved out of state.

So...now I still go get oil/filter changes. But sooner or later I'll need other vital services too. And I don't know what those would be!
Can you tell me WHAT services are important to get? And WHEN I should get these services.

I have about 35,000 mi on my little car! :-)

if you,ll look in the owner manual it actually tells you some if the main important things to do to it at certain miles on the car ,and there are some of them that do need to be done at certain times on it like change the transmission oil and differential oil on it,things like this just need to be checked, and done when it starts looking dirty or common sense kicks in and says i need to do this ,that's the best thing to use i good old common sense use this and you,ll be fine ,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

Your friend is absolutly right. The way cars are built today is a real dream for owners compared to how they used to be built years ago. There are some cars that can go 100'000 miles without a tune up. Your Toyota is a fine car. I have a 2000 Camry I bought new. Do your oil as you have been doing...~3-5 thousand miles.... 35 thousand seems like you might want to start looking at a full sevice soon... One thing real important though at about 65 thousand miles have the timing belt changed regardless.... have it done .

Check your owner's manual to see what the factory recommends. Since you have always had it serviced regularly (up until your friend told you not to), you should be in pretty good shape.
Mind you, some of the smaller things POSSIBLY could be let go, but why do it? If you want your car to keep going for a long time (and that's most of the people), do your services. It'll save you money down the road.
Use some common sense. If a part looks ok, you can leave it for a while.

he sounds like really good friend(not)you should have a manuel in your car,go what the manufactory says.you need to change your oil and filter, grease job, rotate your tires, have your brakes checked, and so forth.they are not any different then any other car,its all on how you keep it up,so i would say go what the manufactory tells you.look in your manuel.

Oil change, tire rotation and tire balancing every 3,000 miles, at 35, 000 change fluid filter, air filter and turn up and maybe flushing your radiator out.
