Yes... Disk cleanup and Defragmentation are essential to help keep a computer working properly.
One should do a disk cleanup everyday and defrag two or three times a week if the computer is used moderately. Try this.
You may need to do a Disk Cleanup..and be sure you have all the boxes checked....
Defrafg your C drive or what ever is your
main harddrive... Make sure you have selected the C Drive.... This is called a Disk Defragmenter...
Go to : Start...
programs..
accessories...
system tools..
Do this often...

It's an absolute necessity. Everything we do and every site we visit, installs it's sites cookie onto your hard drive, enabling their page to load faster the next time you visit. Unfortunately, there will come a time when you cant get to your favorite sites because that particular cookie has gone stale and needs to be dumped and reloaded with a fresh one the next time you visit that site. Also, there are probably thousands of temporary files (in the temp folders) that arent even needed anymore and need to be removed immediately as they're taking up some of your "cache" memory, not to mention space on your hard drive. It's also the number one cause of your computer slowing down to an aggrivating crawl. You should perform a Disk Cleanup at least once a week and defrag the hard drive as well. After the defrag, make sure to restart the computer so that the new changes can take effect. Hope this helps. Larry RadioShack 01-9590

Disk clean up is very good to and for your PC.
first you choose what drive you want to clean up.
It will calculate then display how much space would be gained by running it.
You then can choose what you want to clean up. Temporary internet files, recycle bin, etc.
you can even view the files if you want to just for your own peace of mine.
clean up does not erase programs or data files.. only temp files.
