by tool kit i think you mean like rocks that they use to bust open shells

By imitative and analytical learning. In my life time there were people, behaviorist, that said any learning beyond associative/conditioned learning was impossible, for animals. As you can see, they were wrong. The truth is like that; some people have trouble seeing the obvious.

I think they learn to use tools from their mothers. I think their strongest sense is probably navigation.
