I started snowboarding last season and borrowed boards from friends, i road a burton, saloman and some cheap a$s hundred dollar board and couldnt tell the diference between any of em. Anyways. know any good models or brands that are cheap, yet will last? What should i NOT buy? Thanks

Boots are by far and away the most important part of buying equipment. Take your time and try on as many different pair as possible. Do NOT buy them sight-unseen on ebay. There is nothing worse than boots that don't fit right. Also, don't fall into the trap of buying boots that are too big. If, when trying a boot on, it fits perfectly then it is TOO BIG. New boots should fit tight as they will break in. At the shop, boots should make you think that if they were just a bit bigger they'd be perfect. Often this will require you buying a boot that is at least half a size smaller than your normal "street" shoe size. This is perfectly fine, I get a lot of days riding and always buy boots a full size smaller than my street shoes. They hurt a bit the first couple times out but after they break-in they fit very well and perform great.

The biggest part about boots is making sure they fit. Your heel should fit securely in the boot without being able to lift up. Had a big problem with this myself. Tried all the expensive ones. Burton, saloman, heel lifted up in all of them. A lower end RIDE boot ended up working the best. Then the RIDE boot wouldn't fit right in the burton bindings I wanted either. They fit best with the RIDE bindings. (boots and bindings are going on 7 years of use now.)
All in all, if you go the ebay route, go to a board shop first and find out what's going to fit/work best for you. Then see if you can find the same on ebay. But buying something just bc it's cheap might just end up taking away from experience.
And if your still just starting out, I'd recommend staying away from the step-ins for now. Stick with the strap-ins. Strap-ins are a bit more responsive.

Its not the best idea to buy second hand boots unless you can try them on first which you can't through ebay. Any brand of boot is good if it feels comfortable to you, your best bet is to have a price in mind and go down your local shop and see what boots they have in your price range and try them all on wheather you like the colour/style or not, as its vitally important that your boots fit you well and you should go for the ones you find the most comfortable.
As far as bindings go secondhand ones will be ok i usually go for Ride as they are comfortable and seem to last long.

Yeh, like the folks above said, try on boots at your local shop. If you do not have one near, try an online shop http://frostyrider.com/shops/online_shops.htm
Get the smallest boot size that will fit comfortably. In other words, dont go to big or too small goldie locks.
