I think you are generous on the IQ score. Maybe 10 IQ.
They text message and shorten everything. Eventually they have no idea how to spell. My ex was a teacher and I could not believe how bad the writing and spelling were. Despite the fact there is a spell check.
If anyone thinks our schools are the best in the world they are deceiving themselves. We rank below most countries on so many things it is embarrassing.

Hop Hop and Rap music has made it's way into popular culture.
This kind of music originates in lower class neighborhoods usually predominantly black, or hispanic. Illiteracy is a major problem with urban youth. Rap music has glorified gangs, and part of the gang culture is illiteracy. So it's now become cool to speak as though you were illiterate, and write letters backwards etc. But I think someone who enjoys this culture would argue that it is a form of art, and that you have to know how to sound cool while doing this. I agree with the fact that it has to do with art, and it's stylistic, but I don't like that it glorifies violence, illieracy, prostitution, drugs, and gangs. So in opposition to that I've tried to learn to speak english better, improve my grammar and spelling etc. Hopefully more people will do this.

When I asked a similar question I was dressed down by one of them and told to join the 21st century, that it was the "new thing", to do with text messaging.
It is scary anyway you slice it.
I think it is a lot of phonetic spelling by people who cannot spell or put together a coherent sentence.
I am afraid for the future of America.

I thought about that too! When I was a teenager I typed like a normal person. Maybe it's to stand out. Maybe it's hormones? Maybe they are retarded?

Because ...... the teenage years are the years of rebellion. Anyone who has survived their teenage years with their memory intact can testify to that.
A teenager will do just about "anything" that is "contrary" to acceptable behavior because they "think" that it is "KEWL"
You can ask any cop and I am sure that he will confirm my opinion.

I don't type like that...I use common abbreviations (i.e. ttyl, brb, etc.) but like to appear to actually know what I'm talking about. And I can actually spell too. It bugs me when people type out stupid things.

It's their age, we all did it. Just love them and let them have their days in the sun, there's lots of time left to get serious latter.
