It depends on the people you associate yourself with. Do you work in upscale hotels? The kind that only the wealthy go to? That could be one reason right there if so. Wealthy people (not all) tend to have an arrogant attitude like they are better than service, or blue collar workers. Maybe you should spend some time with people who aren't as well off. Where I am from (Michigan) I see that even here with the people who have money or are considered the town clicks. But many of us are just trying to support our families and get by day by day. Like I said, it really depends on different things. Hopefully you will meet some people who will change your opinion of a certain class or nationality of people. And remember, too often one good apple spoils a bunch...Only you have to make it a point to sort through and find the good ones.

Usually you are talking about 2 classes of Americans and not the overall view of Americans. Rich Americans and red-neck Americans have chips on their shoulders.
For the record - being from the South does not make you a redneck. Being an idiot looking to get drunk, fight and argue does. Not all southerner's are rednecks.
I have known a few Canadians. Some are just as good and wholesome as many Americans. Some Canadians are rich idiots rednecks. Do you get my meaning?
Certain ones of Americans are so patriotic I suppose they could be viewed as snobs - but thats not their true nature.
I promise you if you came to my part of America, you'll find people who will help you in times of trouble no matter who you are. There are people who will invite you into their homes and insist you eat a meal with them before you leave - if you didn't -we'd feel like you were the snob.
Nothing is so clear cut as to say Americans are snobs and rude. Some are - unfortunately it sounds like you run into the idiots. On behalf of the decent Americans, I apologize for the rude jerks you encountered.
I have not read any replies to your question here - but I would not be surprised to see a few of those idiots proving my point.
While were on the subject - your Canadian leaders have quite openly belittled Americans as a whole. All those nice Americans I told you about, take those comments very personal - and would get medieval on their butts really quick.., you just do not belittle people who are not arrogant. We have feelings - and we get angry like anyone else, Canadian, Russian, Chinese - it really doesn't make a difference. If I call you names, you're gunna get angry.

I think you are dealing with the East Coast crowd. The midwest tourists tend to be friendlier.
Part of the reason you are getting this is the situation. Certain people treat employees poorly and the richer the hotel (and the clientele), the more likely you'll get this. It's true everywhere.
Now the middle class Americans are more likely to have been in your shoes and less likely to treat a hotel employee like a doormat.

I'm an American, and me and my family are very friendly and down to earth. I know what you mean, though. I've run into quite a few snobs myself. I really can't stand that "better than you" attitude. I wish I knew why some people are that way. We're all on this earth together, and should go out of our way to be nice and considerate of each other.

I'm an American, and don't worry I won't bash you. Unfortunately, some people are ignorant and snobby. Not of all of us are bad though. I'm an America, I don't own the world, I just have American citizenship. I'm' proud of my country but that doesn't make me any better then someone else. Hey, you met one nice American!

canada is for whimps, i bet mexico can kick your butt. what you dont relize is that you are not worthy to be in the presents of us great americans. when we pass, you should stand at attention and salute us as we walk by. and than after we pass you should hope that we fart so you can have the pleasure of smelling our butts.
americans have worked to hard and done to many great things to take any more crap from outher people. your country would not be anything with out the united states. dont never talk badly about the united states you sorry piece of canidan crap. we are trying to help in more places than your social schools will even teach you about and you think you have the right to say we are snobs.
when you country is dying by the thousands to give outher people basic human rights even when the jelous world is againest them than you might be abel to say something. no we are not stuck up. you just dont have enuff class to communicate at our level.
