Yes, global human extinction will end it. As long as enviromental laws are not universal, global in scope, industries will move to where they can escape expensive enviromental regulations. And as long as our ball-less politicians allow the polluting countries to have trade deficits with the USA, nothing will change. We have less pollution here now because we are becoming a raw-goods exporting post-industrial colony, but airborne pollution from China is being detected here.

No, since it has to be a balance, if we destroy industry and jobs we can't survive either
