Why does the internet on my macbook run so slow?

I have a brandnew macbook, and every page takes forever to load. I have dsl, so I don't know what the problem is.

Are you using a wired connection or wireless? If you are using a wireless connection, try hooking up to your router with a cable. If it starts running faster, you know it's the the wireless connection that's causing the problem.

Wireless connections can suffer from interference from cordless telephones and your neighbor's wireless ethernet. One thing that can happen is that you are accidentally connecting to your neighbor's wireless connection. Check which wireless network you are connecting to. Click on the wireless network icon to the right side of the top menu bar. Click "open internet connection" to see the network you are connected to and the strength of the signal you are receiving.

Every once in a while my DSL / wireless performance will just go to pot. I restart my DSL modem, router, and computer, and things start working again.

Hopefully you are using Safari or Firefox.

Don't use Internet Explorer! Also Google at times is slower than snot for some reason.

With DSL,even over wireless (I am using that right now) not a problem. However, as with all computer the more memory, and the less application you are running the faster you will surf the net.

Also if your computer is brand new then searchlight is cataloging your hard drive, it will speed up once searchlight is done doing that.

Once that happened to me,

If they delay you are taking about makes pages delay before loading rather than loading slowly, the problem could be the DNS servers.

In System Preferences --> Network --> Configure --> TCP / IP

There is a text field labeled "DNS servers" if this IP address is incorrect (or sometimes even if it is correct), it can cause the slow down.

Try deleting that IP address, but write it down first (just in case).

If it doesn't go faster after this, try logging out, then in again to make sure the changes take effect.
