Sometimes bad things just happen... You can't have good things without an opposite, or they wouldn't be good things. If you always walk down the street, and found money, it would not be good, it would be considered a constant effect. Therefore, it would just be something that happened, you wouldn't find happiness in it because you KNOW it is going to happen... It is once you walk down the street, and not find money, that you come to appreciate it when you do come across money. Substitute money with anything... Meeting a friend, winning a prize, not getting jumped, being hit by a car, loosing your wallet, falling in love, etc...

Hi, this is an age old question, and a profound one. I think you should start by examining the premise of your question - that there is a reason. There is no reason to believe that things happen for a reason, or that there is a universal standard for what is "bad". When the lion eats a gazelle, that is bad for the gazelle but a meal for the lion.

This is not as sad as it might appear at first blush. The absense of a universal "point" means that it is up to YOU to think about what you can do to make this world a better place.

The reason why bad things happen is because it makes us appreciate all the good things that happen. It's said that for every good thing that happens in life, you are meant to experience 10 bad things. This is so that we fully appreciate and value all the good things in life. Death is a sad time, but when a new life is born we rejoice and celebrate. If we only had life, then we wouldn't find it as important. I hope I've helped you some.

Well I would not say I know for sure, but the conclusion I have come to after experiencing more than my share of tragedy and misfortune is this.

Pain is a teacher. When My son died it taught me how precious our children our. Of course I adored him when he was alive, but the depths of sorrow truly showed me the measure of love. Many years later I have a little girl and I value her more than words can say. I make a strong effort never to take her for granted because I fully understand that in an instant she could be gone.

I have been hurt and ostracized and I have learned compassion. I would never intentionally inflict pain on someone because I know how it feels.

Being abused as a child I am hypersensitive so I usually don't miss a trick of what is going on around me which I can use to my advantage.

I know I am not speaking in "philosophy speak" but giving factual evidence of the value of suffering.

If there were no rain there would be no flowers.
If there were not forest fires certain trees could never regenerate.
and on and on.

I have never seen a more beautiful day than when the sun begins to shine through the dark clouds of a storm. Everything is more brilliant than at any other time. If I had never tasted sorrow I would not gain the deepest appreciation of a precious moment of joy.

The point in experiencing bad things is that we learn from what we go through. We are doomed to repeat history if we don't learn from our mistakes otherwise, we learn nothing and keep repeating what we do. It's all about choices; there are bad and good choices. What you decide to do dictates your life. You need to think about what you want in life and make the right choices for yourself. We might not understand the bad things when we go through them, but later on when we do, we realize we gained some knowledge from it and that we grow from that experience. It gives us strength and resilence and let's us know that even though we can be knocked down that nothing will keep us down for long. We are human and we are going to experience bad and good things whether we like it or not.

Opportunity is often disguised as misfortune. We become complacent. Then we experience a tragedy. Lose a job, lose a loved one, for example. That tragedy forces us to make decisions that we otherwise would not have made. Lose a job? We often find ourselves with better jobs. Have to move away? The new life is more fulfilling than the one we left behind. Lose a loved one? We remember them with our deepest emotions, recall the lessons they taught us, and are hopefully better people for having known them as we forge new relationships. So ultimately, bad things aren't so bad in the long run. That's the point.

Nature comes as a package of actions that mankind sees as good and bad. Rain is prayed for earnestly by one country and it pours and floods creat havoc in another. vulcano erupts in one place and the lava enriches the earth.

It is in the nature of things . There is no way you can choose only the things you like. You can give any explanation involving God and karma, whatever.

i believe in this life we are dealing with 3 levels of existence. one is physical, one is mental, and the last spiritual. the things that happen in life affect each level different and are lessons to our being. somethings we may be able to deal with easily on the physical but are harder on the other levels. as we progress thru life we learn to let more minor things go as we have dealt with them b4. yes, sometimes the lessons are hard and i believe the harder they are the more we need to lean on each other for support. it is not a sign of weakness to reach out. and when we have experienced different lessons and evolved into a higher state of being, we are then able to support others who reach out to us.

lifting you on eagles wings,

ps hope your "bad experiences" turn out for the good in the long run. in peace

because the world needs balance and you wouldn't appreciate the good without having felt the bad.

Ask any survivor (of a tragedy social or medical)... they will appreciate the air, the sun, the day... because they could have lost it all.
