They have potential. It can happen. They just need to keep their star players there and build up.

Not unless they get a new GM.
The Dodgers are full of washed up players and high risks. In the process the Dodgers emptied a rather sparse farm system. The same farm system that 15 years ago had provided a player to almost every team in the majors it was so productive.
The Dodgers havn't learned you can't buy a World Series. You have to have the foundation and the spirit first. Then you plug holes with free agents. Until they learn that concept no, they are not going to the WS. They did manage to stay within striking distance of the playoffs this year. However if the team remains basically the same all the grey hair cannot hold on for two seasons in a row. Expect a marked decline if the Dodgers do not get younger and get some young players with talent.

Why not? With free agency the way it is anymore, they have as much of a chance as any team. Money has not guaranteed any team a championship and certainly the regular season doesn't have much value anymore. Look at the Cardinals. 83-78 and they get to call themselves "world champs". That's the biggest joke of the entire 2006 season. Baseball is getting more and more like hockey. Before you know it the playoff structure will be expanded to add even more teams. It's all about the money that can be made. Sure, the Dodgers, who I thought were better than the Cardinals this season could very well win within the next 10 years, maybe even within the next 5.

The Dodgers do have the pieces to become a contender for the World Series and might accomplished that in less than ten years. They manage to keep their farm system intact despite the urge to trade them for better players. They sign key veterans to short term deal in order for them to teach the kids to play in a major league level. The payroll has limited the team to go after the big FA (not every team has a George Steinbrenner) but Ned Colletti is making smart deals, something that Paul DePodesta, Dan Evans or Kevin Malone never did during their tenure at Dodgers GM. The only mistake was Bill Mueller but it didn't hurt them financially as he only sign for two years, which would have the arrival of prize prospect 3B Andy LaRoche ready to play by 2008, barring any problems. Andre Ethier made us forget about Milton Bradley (both were involved in the same trade), as he lead the team in batting average and had 14 HR in his rookie season, despite being yank off the playoff spot to Marlon Anderson. OF Matt Kemp is already being compare to Manny Ramirez, but is playing like Jeff Francoeur (doesn't draw much Walks), but he'll learn. Once the big contract expires, expect the Dodgers to break the bank once again for a big FA or two to help this team win a World Series.

If the owners let the new gm spend the money necesary to get some better pitching to go with the young talent they already have, then yeah, winning the World Series will definitely happen sometime in the next ten years.

Its certainly possible. They have a half decent rotation, and are starting to build a lineup.
They are getting a team that could be quite good in the future.
I don't know if they are going to win a world series.
They will have to get better and better.

No, not a chance, because they don't have the ownership willing to spend the type of money necessary to build a winning team from the ground up.
