Iron can't float "Iron ships" really steel, just displace enough water to remain on the surface this is true of wooden ships as well. If you fill a wooden ship with water it sinks too.

During Napoleanic times the technology to build steel ships wasn't in existence. Iron clad ships were (Ships with iron plates attached to the hulls to stop cannon balls from damaging them)

So the answer is no.
