increased iron causes green stool. If you are nursing, you probably had some excessive iron in your diet that passed through.
Newborn stools usually range in color from the yellows, to green to brown. Don't worry unless it's bloody.

Hey Kitty.
First off - congrats on being a concerned mom and noticing when your little one has a change in their stools.
Second - dont worry about green. Newborns have different colored stools for quite sometime. There are times to be concerned...such as red in the stools, seriously loose bowel movements (though keep in mind your little one is on a stickly liquid diet so loose is subjective) hard stools, and a couple of others. But green is not a bad thing. And normal for the most part.
If you have concerns though...call your pedia. You pay them to answer questions.
Oh - just reliazed I almost didnt actually answer your question - the cause is normally iron. But it could be a whole range of things...such as veggie intake - if you are bf - or mommy having a cold...
Good luck and once again congrats!!

Green stool is completely normal. Bowel movement changes colors as they grow older. My daughter bowel movements are dark green then lighter green and it goes back and forth nothing to worry about. As long as it's not streaked with red don't worry about it. It's normal

You're feeding it food with lots of iron in it. Are you still breast feeding? it could also be from breast milk or green veggy foods. If this happens over a long period of time you should take it to the doctors because it could be diarrhea or your baby could be having digestion problems.

Are you breast feeding her? If not is she eating anything. It could be from the formula, or just a natural reaction to new food. You may have to change the food/formula. It couild be form medicine if she is on any or from you if you are on any and breast feeding the child.
Best to just call your doctor and ask. better safe than late
