I am sick to death of daily political polls. I would like all polls eliminated and when the public makes up its mind, then we can all be informed. When pollsters don't get the results they want, they poll some more. Why do we need them?

There have certainly been cases - even recently - where the pollsters simply 'interview dogs and cats' to get the results their paymasters would like to hear. Yet, they ALL claim to be accurate within + or - 3%.... How does that work?
Maybe they're useful in some ways, but how about stopping them 24 hours before the vote?

You answered your own question partly. Democrats need polls to see what way the wind is blowing. If you do not believe this, ask Dick Morris and what he did for Clinton.

Republicans use these too. There are too many Republicans who get caught up in this game of reading polls instead of leading.

If you want to see how misleading the reporting of polls are, look here: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2006/senate/senate.html

Note that Democrats lead in many races over incumbent Republicans. Also note that there should be about a 3% margin of error. Subtract 3% from each Democrat's total and you are under 50% for most. This is an example of false reporting of polls. I see it all the time.

I agree. If they want to report a poll, they need to report their voting demographic.

I am also 100% against exit polls. I think it keeps people from voting on the west coast when the media calls the races so early.

Polls seem to try to discourage one party or the other. They are hoping you will say," Why vote, we will lose anyway." We need to do our duty and vote even if we may think it is a worthless cause. If we refuse to vote for any reason, we have got to love the guy that wins. He scared you off!

It's just entertainment for some. Don't believe polls, believe results.

No, they may be skewed in one direction or the other, but it's the only way to know if the counting of votes isn't rigged.
