A Canadian cannot be knighted for services to Canada, only for services to Britain or other Commonwealth countries where knighthoods are used. The Canadian government blocked Conrad Black's peerage as Chretien did not like Black, then made a fuss over the vice chancellor of Queen's University, Belfast (also Canadian) getting a knighthood simply to look consistent. But the government did not complain when other Canadians have received knighthoods for services to Britain (two in the 1990s: one was Garter King of Arms Conrad Swan and other was a businessman). Redshift is correct that foreigners can only receive honorary titles, but this does not apply to Commonwealth citizens.

The 1919 Nickel Resolution, against Canadians receiving titles, is not a law but only a declaration by the Canadian parliament. R.B. Bennett recommended Canadians for knighthoods from 1930-35. Presumably a wildly Anglophile Canadian government could do the same again, as it is convention and not law that prevents the Queen from honouring Canadians with titles, but this is unlikely now that Canada has had its own honours since 1967.

Being born British or a citizen of the U.K. helps. Which I believe Canada is. Once a year the Queen gets a list of those to be Knighted or Damed. This can be refused, but rarely is by the honoree. Its usually bestowed for "lifetime achievements" such as acting (Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Dame Helen Mirren, Dame Judi Dench or Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir Alec Guinness) in Music (Sir Mick Jagger, Sir Bob Geldorf), etc. Anyone who distinguishes themselves for a long period of time in a certain field that helps or entertains the British people or the people of the United Kingdom.

no i additionally don't believe knighting businessmen like alan sugar. They do industry and so they get knighted. so does that imply considering that my dad opens a cafe for public he will have to be knighted. People who're knighted will have to be considering that of massive donations or support to different international locations or combatants who've fought in a battle to support our nation.

Forgien nationals can be knighted but can't use the title Sir they can just put the letters KBE (Knight of the British Empire) after their name. Honorary awards to foreign nationals are conferred by the Queen on the advice of the foreign secretary so you'll have to get the attention of Jack Straw.

Roger the Canadian government has banned it Citizens from receiving Knighthoods. The only way is for the Prime Minister of the UK recommending you for a Knighthood. Roger give loads of money to the Conservative party and I swear you get your Knighthood. Once you have given large donation like One million Pounds etc.

I think Knighthoods are available only to those who live in the UK (rather than in Canada). How about the Order of Canada instead?

Yes, it would be great to be dubbed a Knight by Her Majesty ... but beyond that is there anything great about being a Knight now. Are you willing to be chivalrous?

You don't need achievements. You need to contribute lots of money to a major political party or do some sort of favour for them. The really worth while people in society do not get this sort of recognition

You have to be a legend in the arts or a good politician. Something like that, or a good professor. Something that is beneficial.
