which sata II controller cards are the best?

i'm trying to figure out some stuff. it seems that there are some controller cards out there that are better than others. i need to know how to shop for the best one for my needs. i'm looking for speed. what specs should i look for in a sata II controller card?

netcell but they went out of business pny sells them with very little support but there driver less so you can run 32 and 64 bit os without the boot partion getting corrupted
