Love is like a double-edged sword. It's not healthy to have a one-sided relationship. I'd prefer the love to be on both sides

Saint Francis said that it's better to love than to be loved. I think that's a high ideal.

Personally, I find that one without the other, or the two very much out of balance leads to a co-dependent relationship, or to a relationship that simply fails.

In the same prayer, St. Francis said that it's better to give than to receive, to console than to be consoled, etc. I just know that I'll never be a saint. On the other hand, there are time that I do give without expecting in return, but in a relationship, if it's one-sided, one grows resentful. It's simply not a healthy way to be.

Balance.

Up until a little time ago, I would have said "to be loved". After my partner's death I thought my capacity to love had followed her into the grave but of late I have regained those feelings of tender affection I thought were gone forever. Now, I can only hope to both give and receive.
Kind regards, Rose P.

It's nice to be loved but i would have to say i prefer to love. It's a much stronger feeling to have.
I'd never want to be loved when i did not love in return.

It is better to be the one who loves than to be loved, which sounds very idealistic but is the nature of some people. Interestingly, if you love you will find that you are loved in return (not always, but more often than not).

I prefer to love. I have control of that. Being loved makes me nervous, again because I cannot control that.
