How to restore small grandfather clock?

Small wall-hanging grandfather's clock w/ flat ornate face and cherry wood housing. Has soot damage from fire so need to clean/refinish housing; need to clean/polish metal ornate face. No problem with mechanism.

use dawn soap, or simple green.
