What would happen to the crime rate if it were legalized?

What would the number of users do if it were legalized... would it increase or decrease?

We know it's a harmful substance so why would one want to legalize such a harmful drug?

If it were legalized, then teens (for the most part) using the substance to rebel against parents, rules, laws, and whatever else, what would they do? Would they continue using marijuana or would they move on to another, more harmful substance?

How and why would this benefit society?

The only use for marijuana that's acceptable in society today (for medicinal purposes) is already available in many states/provinces with a prescription from a qualified doctor. What would the purpose of legalizing marijuana be?

If it were legalized, wouldn't it be easier to get ahold of and be easier for children to access and be harmed by?

Would you allow your own children (either now or several years down the road when you do have children) to use marijuana? If it's legalized they can purchase it on their own much easier. Just gives a person a little bit to think about.

Questions About Marijuana Legalization

1) Why should the government be allowed to tell us what we can and cannot put in our bodies? Clearly they don't know what is best for us because nicotine, the world's most addictive narcotic and cigarettes, the leading cause of cancer in the world, and alcohol are legal?
2) We have all heard about people who get in fights or shoot guns at each other because they are drunk - have you ever heard of anyone starting or getting in a fight after using marijuana?
3) If marijuana were legalized and taxed similar to alcohol and tobacco, wouldn't the revenue assist reducing the deficit?
4) Couldn't the resources - especially law enforcement and the military - be better used for problems more serious ( terrorists, illegal immigrants ) to the USA than for chasing down and prosecuting growers/users of marijuana?
5) The health costs of alcohol use and abuse, as well as all the factors of cigarette usage and cancer in the USA have been well documented as affecting every part of our lives - sick days, lung and heart problems, liver problems, auto and plane accidents, mistakes in the work place. Are there no similar statistics for the use and effect of marijuana because those statistics are inconsequential?
6) Is the only reason marijuana illegal in the USA because the conservatives and Republicans need to use it as a battle cry to finance the "war on drugs". Isn't it obvious the US Government does not know how to win the war on anything bad for as evidenced by increased tobacco use in the country, and the fact that alcohol use is not decreasing?
7) WHy does the government only use marijuana in the argument that it is a gateway drug, when surveys conducted at the request of the US Surgeon General show that hard core drug users have either used alcohol or tobacco first, or continue to use those things, when they are also trying and using coke, meth, heroin and hallucinogenics?

there are supposedly internal memos that state that they (big tobacco) knew tobacco was harmful... and continued to market it as harmless... knowingly killing Americans and acting like you're not is a pretty good reason to hate someone... do you have internal memos from marijuana suppliers that state the same? EDIT: maybe one of your family members can get cancer from some big company that markets it's products as safe or even healthy (as tobacco did)... and while they're dying a painful death in the hospital, you can run back on here and talk about how great that company is...

Who will be in charge of regulating the quality? How will they determine good product vs. bad? Would you be able to buy it over the counter or have to have a prescription? Who would determine the cost and how would sales be taxed? If it's legal, does that mean anyone can start a crop in their own back yard and smoke it any old time they please? Can they grow it and give it away? How old do you have to be to smoke it? Would you be able to eat it in brownies if you're not old enough to smoke it? How will all of these things be regulated?

I would ask...
If people want the effects of the THC in Marijuana, why would they choose to smoke it when they can eat it and get the same effect without risking lung cancer and heart disease or the smell of it on them that gives them away to people who look down on them for using drugs? Isn't it all about "looking cool"?

I say legalize it, but not the smoking of it.

Why do you want to legalese it? "is it for personal use or medicinal use(medical) and if it is legalized how would you regulate it , tax or keep track of it? How would you take care of abuses and missuses? How would you dispense it or market it?Who would be in charge of distribution the Federal government or a privet enterprise?Who would be allowed to grow it package it and gain a profit from it? would it be treated the same as alcohol no use on the job and would you be allowed to have it in your system and still drive if you were deemed sober (what would be the limits)? Then you run into a hole host of moral issues is use of this drug considered compatible with your religious beliefs (if you have them)? and so on...

If smoking filtered cigarettes that have to pass government regulations for quality control has been shown to be harmful to your health, how can smoking an unfiltered weed that is not regulated be considered healthy?
