I live in the country on a ranch.
We pay some of the youngers 9-16 to do odd chores and brush horses clean out water troughs... etc... Some make almost $100 a week. (Those that feed)
Not sure if you are near a rural area but my animals are much more well adjusted the more attention they get.
I love having the youngers here they are good kids and hard workers.
Oh and definitly have your dad go and talk to the owners.
Work and responsibility is good. But the people hiring have to be good too.

No, you are too young to be hired in any kind of store. Your only choice is babysitting or odd jobs like lawn mowing, yardwork etc. Since winter is coming, people will need their walks shoveled.

I suggest you sit down with your dad and ask him what kind of things would be OK with him for you to earn money. He might just want you to do chores around the house, but you might be able to come up with a list of neighbors you know and trust and ideas for odd jobs they might need help with. For instance, if you have a neighbor with a dog, you might be able work something out where you go over after school to walk the dog and play with it for a few bucks. This can be very helpful to someone who doesn't get home until late.

The only legal employment that I know of is for a child to work in their parents' business. Even then, the laws are strict about hours and times that can be worked. In fact, I don't even know of too many places that you could volunteer at 13. You have your whole life to work. Why would you want to start already?

I think the best job that you can get is a job that you are able to do for your parents, a neighbor, or a family friend or you can babysit. You also may be able to make flyers or something and advertise that you are willing to babysit children or pets or do yardwork or something.
